Research
Within the field of modern mechanical engineering, plastics is growing in significance as an engineering material, replacing traditional materials such as wood, metal, or glass in various application areas.
The Kunststofftechnik Paderborn (KTP) is divided into two research groups:
- Kunststofftechnologie (Plastics Technologies), headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Elmar Moritzer, primarily deals with the analysis of manufacturing processes in injection molding, composite technology, and the joining of plastics, as well as the recycling of plastic waste.
- Kunststoffverarbeitung (Polymer Processing), headed by Prof. Dr. -Ing. Volker Schöppner, deals with researching and the further development of processing methods. The knowledge gained from this research provides better process understanding, which is passed on to the industry in the form of advanced user software.
