The Verein zur Förderung der Kunststofftechnologie e. V. was established in 1993 with the aim to support application-oriented research and development in the field of polymer engineering by an intensive cooperation between Polymer Engineering Paderborn (KTP) and the industry. In addition, projects are promoted which are not financed by public research institutions like DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), AiF (Allianz Industrie Forschung), EU or BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research).

The integration of practical results into the research work of the KTP and the fast transfer of technology offers especially medium-sized companies the possibility to profit from the newest developments. Thus, the non-profit Förderverein wants to win over members from various fields of polymer processing. Currently, 38 companies at home and abroad belong to the Förderverein. The honorary working board of the Förderverein makes sure that the successful cooperation will also be the guiding principle in the future:
